My aunt gave me a frame for Christmas with the first line of this Judy Hills quote in it (thanks Aunt Patty):
"She wasn't where she had been. She wasn't where she was going…but she was on her way. And on her way she enjoyed food that wasn't fast, friendships that held, hearts glowing, hearts breaking, smiles that caught tears, paths trudged and alleys skipped. And on her way she no longer looked for the answers, but held close the two things she knew for sure. One, if a day carried strength in the morning, peace in the evening, and a little joy in between, it was a good one…and two, you can live completely without complete understanding." ~ Jodi Hills
This quote is so appropriate for where I am in my life right now, especially with this semester abroad beginning in (gulp) 15 days. Although I constantly have nervcitement (nervous excitement of course) running through my body, I am grateful to have this opportunity to go abroad for a semester. I have received mixed reactions to my travel news, because although this might not be surprising to those who know me well, some have given me a look of why are you going there?!?! Many reasons actually, but to name a few:
1. The Alliance for Global Education's program suit my interests well- environmental issues, social justice, and issues in political economy and development. I also get to do an internship.
2. I've been to Europe , Africa and Central America so India is just my next journey! I'm not looking for the "typical" abroad experience.
3. I love yoga (thanks to my yoga teaching mother), hot weather, and learning, experiencing, growing, and being challenged mind body & soul...all things I am sure to find in India ;-)
I'm off to Georgia to visit friends and spend quality car time with the family before I embark on a 15 hour plane ride. Wishing you joy and peace in the coming new year! I'll be in touch...
